I have always been intrigued by Linux operating systems. How would they work? Is it functional? Can I use my existing knowledge of using a Windows operating system to use it without being too lost?
Well, a few weeks ago I discovered Ubuntu. Ubuntu can be setup within your existing windows system without having to set up a partition or any of that stuff that gives the hard core computer techs a reason to take their vitamins every day. Simple instructions are given from their website on installation. Be careful though to install it within windows and not overwrite windows. It is a quite functional system and actually quite fast. A number of programs including the Firefox browser and Open Office are bundled with the program. Now that you are all excited - be careful to install it within windows and not overwrite windows. Also check with your internet provider to see if they support Linux. Ubuntu is one of many Linux systems.
